| Engorgement is when the breast swell up when "milk kicks in" usually two to six days after giving birth. How to prevent it:
Nurse as often as possible doctors suggest feeding at least every 2 to 3 hours.
Signs of engorgement:

How to treat breast engorgement:

Before breastfeeding take a warm shower or place a warm towel on breasts.

Pump or hand press before feeding so baby can latch on.

Nurse as often as possible, not limiting baby to any amount of time.

Anti-inflammatory medications like Advil will help reduce the swelling and pain.
Important, engorgement should be treated immediately if left untreated it can develop to blocked duct or breast infection "mastitis"
